Senator Aird Statement on Appointment as Chair of the Committee on Local Government and as a Member of Finance and Appropriations

RICHMOND, VA - Today Senator Lashrecse Aird (D-Henrico) was named as the new Chair for the Committee on Local Government and was additionally appointed to the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee.  She released the following statement:

“I’m deeply honored to step into the role of Chair of the Senate Local Government Committee. Local governments are where so many of the decisions that shape people’s daily lives are made — from housing and infrastructure to economic development and energy planning. I’m committed to helping move the Commonwealth forward on these issues in a practical, solutions-focused way while making sure our cities, counties, and towns retain the authority they need to make the decisions that best reflect their communities,” said Senator Lashrecse Aird (D-Henrico).

“Further, at the start of this session I made a commitment to focus on affordability.  The opportunity to return to a budget committee through my appointment today to Senate Finance and Appropriations, initially begun during my time in the House, will allow me an even greater opportunity to fulfill this commitment.  As we navigate the challenges created by HR1 and ongoing economic uncertainty, I will advocate for fiscal responsibility while continuing to invest in education, childcare, workforce development and the economic foundations that keep Virginia one of the best states in the country to raise a family. I look forward to contributing to that work alongside my colleagues.”

Senator Lashrecse Aird represents eight diverse localities driving her consistent approach of pragmatic governing – known as a champion on education issues, criminal justice reform, reproductive healthcare access, and economic development.  With a willingness to reach across the aisle and work bipartisan to get things done,  Senator Aird has a proven track record of legislative successes at the State Capitol.
